Life with a puppy, baby, and a toddler.

(David was too busy playing to take a photo for me ha)

I get asked semi frequently about having a puppy and also having young kids so I thought it'd be kind of fun to sit down and write a little post on the subject! Poppy just turned 5 months yesterday, Eden is 9 months, and David 2.5 years so I've definitely got my hands full. Our house is always busy and a little bit chaotic but I honestly wouldn't have it any other way.

We brought home Poppy when she was just over 7 weeks and day two of having her, I remember thinking we had just made the hugest mistake. Potty training was the worst. I mean absolutely awful. Cleaning up accidents while also tending to the kiddos was so stressful and making sure she got out in time was a whole other story. Once we got past that phase, and once she learned some boundaries (she's still learning but it's so much better), it's been pretty smooth sailing. Be right back, gotta go knock on some wood. ;)

She is honestly the best dog and I've told Drex several times, we will never own another breed. She's so great with the kids, she loves to snuggle, she loves other dogs and people, and she's just so awesome. Right before we brought her home I found myself on the internet searching for positive experiences/tips with having young kids and a puppy. Unfortunately what I found was loads of negativity and just about everyone discouraged the two. SO here's the deal from someone that's actually done it,

Go for it.

It is hard work. I mean it is really hard work. You'll spend a decent portion of your day teaching your kids boundaries AND teaching your dog boundaries. Someone will always be getting into something and you can say goodbye to any rugs on your floors for awhile. But it is so fun and so rewarding and the craziness is all worth it. I do plan on writing up a post on how we made it work for us because there definitely are some key things that made the adjustment a whole lot easier. That's a post for a different day though ;)
