So we finally decorated David's room this past week! When we initially moved in, he was still in our bed and with everything else we had to do in the house, his room kinda took last priority and was never really decorated. Making his room "his own" has always been on our "to do eventually" list but we really wanted to wait until he was a little older and could actually enjoy it. When Alyssa from Love and Lullabies offered to make the kiddos lovey blankets, I decided this would be the perfect time to do his room! As I searched for a blanket design, I also took into consideration what we wanted the "theme" of his room to be. David's really into animals of all kinds and so once I found the fabric, I kinda just ran with that.
Originally we had a dresser in his room (filled with Eden's clothes because his are in his closet), but it held the lamp and the few books that we read every night before bed. We also had a rocking chair (that was mine when I was a baby, fun fact). We ended up taking both of those things out (the dresser was part of the ikea recall so that actually worked out for us) and got to start over with a blank slate! David's room isn't huge so I knew whatever we chose to put in it needed to be functional, and I'm a crazy paranoid mom, so everything also needed to be safe. He's currently still in a crib but I know one of these days he's going to climb out and we'll have to make the (dreaded) transition to a toddler bed. I really wanted everything in his room to be calm and really just kind of relaxing.
I'd been eyeing the teepees that Target sells and this seemed like the best time to jump on it! I wanted to create a separate space in his room in which he could just be and read books (which he LOVES to do), and play with stuffed animals, without being in his bed. It also became the "replacement" for the rocking chair as a place to read his bedtime stories! I'd like to eventually stick some cute bright colored pillows in there but right now our cheap $4 white pillows will do ;)
Because we took out the dresser we needed a place to put the lamp (and also the baby monitor which I conveniently took out for these photos). I initially just planned on getting a nightstand but it turns out that if you type the word "nightstand" you get to pay 3x as much and I wasn't really into that. So, we went with a "side table" from Target which was on clearance and is so perfect. I found it online and Drex picked it up for me on his way home from work and I'm so glad that it looks as awesome in person as it did online! It's really short which works so perfectly and fits the lamp + monitor really well. We stuck his bedtime books in a cute basket and called it good!
We're waiting on his crib sheet to get in and eventually we'll hang frames on the walls. Right now he's got two stuffed animal mounts that I am obsessed with and that he loves too. He was so excited when Drex walked in with them one day! I am SO happy with how it all turned out! Also, if you're wondering why the absence of toys, we have a playroom down the hall so he doesn't have toys in his bedroom. :)
