The Honest Company: A love story

As I try to get back into the swing of blogging, I've decided to occasionally write about a product that we LOVE and think everyone should use. So starting with the basics, let's talk about diapers!

Once upon a time I was pregnant, and Drex and I were making the decision about diapers. Cloth we decided. We registered for them, asked for them as birthday and Christmas gifts, researched them, and were feeling mighty prepared before David was born. Sure, our little apartment didn't have a washer and dryer, but the laundry facility was just a short walk away, we had this. Then, in the same way my birth didn't go as planned , and breastfeeding didn't go as planned , cloth diapering didn't go as planned either. David was born in the hospital unexpectedly which meant our hospital bag was packed in 15 minutes. Not just a normal easy going slow 15 minutes either, it was a crazy me screaming in the shower, my mom arriving (and having to help me out of the shower and get dressed), my midwife getting back to the house, all while Drex is having to frantically run around and shove things in a bag.  Cloth diapers didn't get packed which meant our plan of cloth diapering immediately didn't happen. The hospital had disposables (that we were getting charged for anyways), and so we used them. With recovering from a c section and feeling super vulnerable about everything, I didn't want to introduce anything else when we got home so disposables continued. It wasn't until David was a month old that he wore his first cloth diaper and we sort of dived in.

He was clothed during the day and wore a disposable at night and once we got a routine down it was great. Drex and I both loved cloth diapering and over and over we asked ourselves why we hadn't done it sooner! When Drex started school at the end of September and it was just me at home, our use of cloth slowed down. I found myself reaching for disposables instead, they were easier to grab and I wasn't having to worry about taking David and doing laundry. The amount of cloth we used decreased significantly and suddenly the cost of laundry+the cost of needing to buy the next size up in cloth+the cost of the disposables I was using during the day and at night, wasn't worth it. We talked a lot about it, ending cloth and switching to only disposables and honestly it was a hard and sad decision! We both enjoyed cloth but in that moment it wasn't working with our lives. So we stopped and put them away.

I missed the cute patterns that cloth provided and the lack of chemicals. I'd heard of The Honest Company before and decided to sign up for a free trial of diapers and wipes. They came, we tried, we loved. We kept on with our monthly bundle and haven't looked back! We get super cute prints, diapers that work well, and we're giving our money to a company I really enjoy. This month our bundle of wintery prints also came with this adorable teether (which we got for free thanks to a Black Friday gift, we got to choose from a selection and went with this, an awesome choice), and then we were completely surprised with a little bag containing a recipe for organic snowflake cookies, cookie mix, and a cookie cutter (in my picture above). Just when I thought I couldn't love this company any more and they do this! Swoon.

I'm not getting paid for this, I'm not being asked to write this, I'm not receiving anything for writing this. I really actually do just LOVE this company, what they stand for, and who they are. I love sharing things that we've found work for us, and Honest diapers definitely do!
